Residential
A vacation home on a jewel-like island in the South China Sea whose Sanskrit name translates as ‘Castle of the Sea’ draws its inspiration from its spectacular natural setting. The coconut tree is an indigenous species that predominates throughout the island and provides welcome shade to counter the tropical heat. The geometry of the coconut, together with the topography of the site, gave rise to a form of habitation that molded itself to the slopes of the hillside, benefiting from the cooling effect of natural air currents. The concrete and steel structure is clad in cedar-shingles, a perfect marriage between the construct and the landscape. Large perimeter decks capture the 360 degree ocean views, and the spectacular Technicolor sunsets.
