Mixed-Use

This mixed use development is the focus of a new cultural and residential district at the edge of the Arabian Desert on the outskirts of Saudi Arabia’s second city. The careful articulation of a flexible modular structure gives these twin towers their eroded organic form as they emerge like crystalline stalagmites from a buttressed sandstone base. Rising 300m above the high water mark on the Northeast shore of the Red Sea, the multi-faceted towers scintillate against the intense blue sky. This typology of skyscrapers challenges the precon-ceived notions of verticality and explores the new possibilities of urbanism.
