The expansion of the global headquarters of the Wall institute, on the campus of the University of British Columbia, reflects the institute’s concern for innovation and research into occupant well being in the built environment. A 50 foot high Living Wall, a colourful natural tapestry set within a glass façade, identifies the entrance to the new administrative accommodation. Within, the space-planning approach emphasizes light and transparency, with even the meeting room taking the form of a seamless glass box within a curved glass enclosure. The mood is delicately balanced between focused research and reflective retreat. The “Living Wall” was a collaborative design effort with Mubi Urban Biodi-versity Interfaces and Iconstrux Architecture.
